MMR catch-up programme

The number of children catching measles is rising. To be protected they need to immunised with the MMR vaccine. This programme is designed primarily to increase the uptake of the vaccine in all children from 13 months to 18 years of age who are unimmunised, but also in children aged from 3 years 7 months (at the start of the programme) to 18 years who have missed out on one of their MMR vaccinations.

Routinely, two doses of MMR are needed – one at 13 months and another at 3 years 4 months – to ensure adequate coverage so that children who cannot be immunised for medical reasons are also protected from getting measles.
