Nobel Prize for doctor who discovered the link between human papillomavirus and cervical cancer.

Prof. Harald zur Hausen, the scientist who made the link that human papillomaviruses caused cervical cancer, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2008. Prof. zur Hausen proved that human papillomaviruses caused cervical cancer and this discovery led to the development of the now available vaccine. In England, the human papillomavirus vaccination programme started in Autumn 2008.
